Does anybody have any information about British/Allied POWs who were used as forced labour in and around the Auschwitz complex. One camp (arbeit commando) that I know about was situated at Monowitz (Monowice) where 1,200 POWs were used to work in the I G Farben rubber production factory (E715). There were other, smaller, camps and any information would be very much appreciated.
This is a list of all sub-camps (mostly work camps) of the Auschwitz - Birkenau complex. Unfortunately I don't know where else - except Monowitz - British POWs could be imprisoned. Some names are only in Polish. Altdorf / Stara Wies Althammer / Stara Kusnia Babice Bauzug Beruna Bismarckhütte / Chorzow-Battory Blechhammer / Slawiecice Bobrek Budy Brunn / Brono Charlottengrubbe / Rydultowy Chelmek / Chelmek-Paprotnik Chorzow Chrzanow Czernica Ernforst Ernfort/Slawecice Eintrachthutte / Swietochlowice Freudenthal / Bruntal Furstengrabe / Lawski Gleiwitz I, II, II, IV / Gliwice Golleschau / Goleszow Gunthergrubbe / ledziny Harmeze Hindenburg / Zabrze Hubertushutte-Hohenlinde / Lagiewniki Janigagrube-Hoffnung / Libiaz Jawichowitz Kobio / Kobior Lagischa / Lagisza Laurahutte / Siemianowice Lepziny-Lawki Lesslau-Wloclawek Libiaz-Maly Lukow Monowitz / Monowice Myslowitz/Myslowice Neu Dachs / Jaworzno Neustadt / Prudnik Sosnowitz I et II / Sosnowiec Trezbinia Tscechwitz / Czechwiece Harmeze Plawy Rajsko Rybnik Rydultowy Siemiennowice Leslau/Wloclawek Zasole Zittau
Thanks for that. Would you be kind enough to give me the source for the above? Do you know what kind of work was undertaken at each camp?
Donald Watt's book "Stoker" will help you with this issue. He stoked the furnaces at Auschwitz-Birkenau. He was an Australian POW. He wrote his memoirs.
Hi I have read the book by Aurthor Dodd, who was a prisoner in Aushwitz, he is a Brit from Lancashire, is book is called "spectator in hell" nick
