Hi I'm going to ask my dad to apply for them as I believe you have to be next of kin or have a death certificate to apply for them which I beleive my dad has as well.

 

Hi - You do need some form of 'proof of death' and a death certificate is normally the best way, a photo of his headstone would be a lot cheaper assuming he was buried when he died. Don't get to official with the NOK you can sign it-The MoD only do it to cover themselves.

Good luck with applying-as others have said it's the best way to go, without them you are just guessing really.
