Hi all, My brother's girlfriend has asked for "Any non-fiction book about spies during or just post WWII." for Christmas. I am looking for something * I can get, used * Is very well written I feel that the scope does not need to be broad, nor the book massive. The first topic that comes to mind is Garbo, but I know there have also been some interesting books published about SOE agents. What would you recommend?
Have you read the history of USN's ONI? https://ncisahistory.org/wp-content...NTURY-OF-US-NAVAL-INTELLIGENCE-compressed.pdf
The Madeleine Masson or the Clare Mulley Chris. Maria Krystyna Janina Skarbek (Christine Granville), OBE, GM, Croix de guerre : SOE My first choice and recommendation would be "Flames in the Field"; Kind regards, always, Jim. EDIT: And by the looks of it the hardback first edition can be found cheap as chips, with the softcover (paperback in old money) even less expensive. Flames in the Field the Story of Four Soe Agents in Occupied France by Kramer Rita, Used - AbeBooks EDIT AGAIN: Couldn't find this old post initially Chris. More choices here. Four SOE female agents in Dachau
Thanks Jim! If nothing else, after doing some hunting, I can suggest she get "The Spy Who Loved" out of the library (I checked that her local one has it).
I recommend Target Tokyo by Prange, Goldstein, and Dillon, which is about the Sorge spy ring, and Spies, by Haynes, Klehr, and Vassiliev, which is about Soviet espionage in the U.S. before, during, and just after WWII.
