(I do know one reason the SS guys have so many members, and that's film work. The only real money in reenacting comes from Hollywood jobs, and Hollywood demands the SS nine times out of ten. More money equals more gear & Vehicles, which in turn equals more members & visibility.) hst.jpg

There's deffo some vehicles in the later photos which weren't there on the Wednesday, I know I spent ages looking for Rex's M10 before I hassled stewards into finding where it was, to which the answer was "Not here yet".

Not sure, the commentator was mentioning what the fakes were built from during his commentary but didn't catch what the Panzer was built from. The Tiger is also a fake I believe, I know M4's and Stuart's were mentioned a lot.

Be interesting to see how they did it ,as the motor on the 432 is where the drver sits on the pz3

...having to accept that I am confronted with the problem as well, I dare to mention that quite a lot of the men in uniform do not resemble the soldiers of the las world war: They are just fed too good :)

Some more things I do not like seing the else great pictures:

    1) Whay to put plates (with tech. data etc.) on the vehicles? This seriously disturbs the presentaton respectively the photo.

    2) Perfectly restored tanks.... and then a commander in a colorful T-shirt in the cuppola :-(

    3) I don't like the camouflage on the vehicles (branches etc.). As it should be for camouflage, it hides the vehicle. But I WANT to see the vehicle...

    4) What is the idea behind this "Fake Pz.lll"?

1 - To be honest Kuno, the problem is the opposite over several days of viewing things in fields. From a punter's point of view not enough vehicles have a bit of info telling you exactly what it is - really nice among thousands of greenish trucks when someone puts up a sheet of A4 saying exactly what it is.

2 - Their tank/vehicle, they can wear what they like I reckon ;). It really is all about the vehicles for most, and many guys have no interest in wearing a uniform. I'd just wear a t-shirt if one of those beauties was mine.

3 - Camo'd up vehicles using branches are almost certainly taking part in a mock battle at some point in the day.

4 - Ersatz Pz.III explained here - Though I think 'It's funny what men and sheds will do' is the primary explanation ;). There will likely be a fair few film jobs out there for it too.

I'm with you on fatty reenactors, looks a bit daft, but to be honest it can be found whatever the period - takes real commitment to live on an authentic diet, you probably just can't get the snook... but I have known some loons from earlier periods that take things that little bit too far .

We were intrigued as well Kev. The driver's visor is glass, but if you look through it all you can see are wires. Certainly one of the fake Stugs is driven in reverse via a camera and video screen set up. This will age me, with a Captain Scarlet reference! who else remembers the Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle?

Edit: after re-reading Adam's link regarding the Pz III they moved the engine to the back.

    Excellent photos lads.

Might save up and go there next year to buy a Lee Enfield or M1. :D

Anybody notice how much de-acs were going for?

    Marcus,

I always find the de-acs are more at these shows. Go the whole hog and get yourself an FAC, far more fun firing them as apposed to looking at them :) 'Live' ones are cheaper than de-acs too
