Do any of you RA experts know of any regimental history books that include the regiments time with the BEF in France and Belgium during 1939 to 1940? Andrew (Idler) has helped a great deal but I suspect you chaps may know some more. I have listed all the RA Regts that I know at some point spent time with the BEF. There must be more out there than I have found so far. Any histories I already have I have added in Red. Cheers Andy

My Dad's unit, 24th Field Regt RA, were in France in 1940. They published a history. When I get a moment I scan the pages and post here?
I am also researching my grandfather who was in RA and was also out in Burma in WW2. He spoke fluent Malay and wanted to go there even though he was nearly 50 and was parachuted behind lines. He was Major Frank Bullen but until we get his records do not know his company or battalion. He had served with 10th Btn DCLI in WW1 and right on front line there. I have sent a request to Firepower but may have to wait for his records to send them too. he had also been at 222 Searchlight at some point

Hi Paul - I'll hunt for a copy of the book if you can give me the title and author. I'm on a book mission (I have most of the BEF Cavalry and Infantry Bn Histories) now as well as a war diary one. Cheers Andy
Drew Flames of Calais by Airey Neave covers 2nd Searchlight Regt RA's role during 1940. It might be of interest. Phil

These are the other ones I'm aware of but haven't got around to buying yet thanks to Idler: JOHNSON (Brig. R.F.) Cheers Andy It's fairly scarce; only seen 3 in 30 years. My father didn't even know it existed. The 1940 content is pretty slim, most of it is Italy.
Does anyone know which regiment(s) Gun Buster's books were based on? Return via Dunkirk is 368 Bty 92 Fd Regt. Haven't looked into the others in detail.
There's only one RA author of the period that counts - 'Gunbuster'. Got it already. Looks like there are not that many then if the RA chaps can't think of any. Funny how no one bothered with them and there is virtually one for every Infantry and Cavalry Regt that served in WW2.
Only RA history I have is 112th (Wessex) Field Regiment RA TA 1938-1946 by Douglas Goddard , Eric Rankin & James Vigers. Werent in BEF so no good to you.
Funny how no one bothered with them and there is virtually one for every Infantry and Cavalry Regt that served in WW2. Probably trying to forget the shame of losing all their guns...
