    Excellent detective work Christian!

So glad we happened on the Gun Buster account of the 'Windmill & the Spire' all those years ago!

    Dear friends,

One recurrent frustration during the conduct of my research is that, since I lack the proper maps used by the BEF in 1940, I am unable to pinpoint grid coordinates mentioned in various ward diaries... I would therefor request your assistance in order to identify a location mentioned in the 23rd (Northumbrian) Division.

May 29th, 1940 - "Battalions were ordered to moved independently across country and to cross the Canal by any bridges between DULSCAMP (H. 48) and HOUTHEM (H. 48). Representatives of units to be sent to report centre at road Junction South West of "F." in FURNES (about H. 425850)."

    "Dulskamp' is, undoubtably, "Bulskamp".

May 30th, 1940 - "Notwithstanding difficulties owing to congested roads packed with troops, transport and guns, units were in position ordered by dawn and Divisional H.Q. opened in a farm 1 mile South of the rendezvous at 0600 hours 30 May."

I am trying to identify the farm mentioned here, where the Divisional HQ was established. In order to do that, I need to be certain of the road junction SW of Furnes. As you can see on the map hereunder (not the 1/250,000 map sheets used by the BEF!), there are quite a few candidates in that general area. However, the one I am looking for should logically be situated somewhere west of the Lo-canal (passing through 'Kortewilde').

Could anyone help me out with this one?

    Christian
