Missed the first part, but it looks like a 3-part series:

    Jews
    2/3. The Next Generation

New series offering an insight into the ultra-orthodox Jewish community in North London.

This episode looks at the psychological inheritance of the Holocaust. Looking at the second generation experience as the children of refugees and survivors still find themselves carrying the inherited trauma from the past in their everyday lives. [AD,S]

I'll try to watch that one. There was a radio programme a couple of years ago that made the case for children who were born after their parents had experienced severe trauma, inheriting a 'memory' of it. Children of those who were children during the holocaust were more likely to suffer adverse psychological side effects. The obvious suggestion was that the parents must have told their children of the horrors, but apparently the same effects were seen in youngsters who were not aware of their parent's experiences. The same was apparently true of children born to parents who had experienced starvation during their childhood.

Lunchtime today , I'm hoping to listen to Yael Danieli , who has done a lot of work on transgenerational trauma .
I was at a workshop about trauma a couple of years ago . Someone began to describe transgenerational trauma and I didn't hear anything for the next 10 minutes . It felt like some sort of shock . Very strange . I knew it was part of my life , but that response was completely unexpected .
