Will have to look at them in great detail. but first impression, rather good.
Battle for Berlin was hell for the Russians, its kind a bad luck to survive the whole war or the half and to die in Berlin ot the final battle. Maybe Stalin did some terrible mistakes with this desire to prevent the allies from taking Berlin to push the army for taking The Raichstag faster. Many Russians died for taking the 'Himlers house' (as the Russians called the Raichstag) it wasn't so nessasery to take it.And the tanks, they were moving target it was easy to destroy any tank.(notice the video when one german shot with panzerfaust just with one hand?) Really hard battle..
Yup, same pigeon droppings... But seriously, that was a really horrible battle - 16 000 lost every day... (from 16th April up to 2nd May)
Just found this whilst Googling. Battle of Berlin thread, but the photo above is Dresden! Photo taken from the top of the Rathaus tower. August Schreitmueller's sandstone sculpture "The Goodness"
but the photo above is Dresden! well spotted, thanks for correction. Website I found it on was wrong then.
Hi Owen, I have actually come across the image that you posted on a "Berlin" themed site, labelled as Berlin ruins or something like that. Strange really, because it is a famous image of the Bombing of Dresden. It is easy to accept titles given to images as being correct. My interest is Berlin, pre 1st war through to modern day, but I hesitate to down load images unless I am fairly sure that the image is accurately titled, even then, I no doubt have some non Berlin photos by mistake! That's the joy of searching out history. :indexCANAHAIH: If you know of any good Berlin interest sites, please do let me know. Cheers!
