Many thanks, but have got the book [and the his latest] but it does'nt give a list of all B Company troops. I kinda thought you might have the two books he did......... but what I meant was send him a message either via the contact page or the Facebook link, he may well have the info you seek as having done two books about 9 Para he would I should think have quite a lot of info not all of which went in the books.

Hi again, i did send him a message[albeit about a very related issue] but had no response. Not sure about the murky world of 'Facebook' but will explore. Thanks again
Hello, I can tell you my Grandad was one of them. His name was Ernest Blackwell. I understand that all the embarkation information for the 9th Battalion has been lost, so they have no definitive list. Hope this helps. Ben
Ranville, If you look at Kew archives for the 9th Parachute Battalion under WO 361 there are some manifests but only of those that had persons missing in the stick, it might be of some help. I have no clue why they destroy documents like manifests, you never know when you might need them and they are not that secret once you have dropped the men. The Station Commanders supposedly hold copies of the manifests hopefully they still exist. Fingers crossed. Also try the Airborne Forces museum from what I can see they have quite a few boxes on the 9th Parachute Battalion and there must be a nominal roll, but also they have lots to do with the Merville Battery. I hope this maybe of some help

Hi lancaster57 I take it he is Robert S. Lancaster originally from Grimsby. If he was killed on August 21st 1944 you can get a general idea of what was happening with 8 Para from the war diary. See here: 8th Parachute battalion - WD Many of the casualties on that day were a result of a 25cm rocket shell that exploded on Bn HQ. Of course there is always the possibility he was wounded beforehand and happened to die later on the 21st. Hopefully members may have an idea if that particular deadly day for 8 Para is recorded in greater detail in a book or other documents. Regards ...
