Award OBE WO2 Stephen Lawrence Mason, (S187210) RASC attached No. 2 Public Relations Service

SSM Mason was appointed Chief Clerk of No. 1 Public Relations Service, MEF in March 1941; he acted in that capacity until March 1944 when was transferred to No. 2 Public Relations Service, CMF. Since then to the present date, he has acted in a similar capacity.
It would be hard to overestimate the service which this WO has rendered during the whole period he has been with Public Relations. Not only has his selfless devotion to duty been unswerving, but the excellence of his work has been consistent throughout.
During my periods, he has worked tirelessly and conscientiously for long hours, never thinking of himself but with the one idea in mind of performing his duty to the utmost of his ability. By his personal example and by his cheerful disposition, he has succeeded in getting the maximum cooperation from his clerical staff, especially during times of extreme stress and strain, thereby obtaining results which could not otherwise have been effected.
Due to the nature of Public Relations work, unexpected calls are often made upon the clerical staff, entailing long hours beyond the normal and the display of considerable initiative on the part of the Chief Clerk. SSM mason has never failed to show exceptional initiative in all aspects this frequently went beyond the strict limits of his duty.
He has gladly undertaken additional administrative work in connection wit the unit and his personality has so impressed itself on all ranks that he has materially assisted in the smooth working of Public Relations by his invariably wise and tactful councils. Always been willing and conscientious to a degree he had proved himself to be the backbone of the administrative organisation of both the units in which he has so ably served
