During the attack on GERBINI early in the morning of 21st July 1943, Sjt. Duncanson’s carrier and a mortar carrier were left isolated. At this point Sjt. Duncason observed infantry of the enemy infiltrating he immediately dismounted his crew and directed their fire onto the enemy force. Simultaneously he ordered the mortar to come into action. When te enemy took refuge he pressed home the attack and directed the mortar fire on the retreating elements. He inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy and frustrated their plan.

Later in the action Sjt. Duncanson was seen personally manning an Anti-Tank gun, which he maintained in action until he was ordered to withdraw.

This sergeant’s coolness and resource in action inspired all who saw him. His leadership was of the highest order and his versatility in Commanding and effectively controlling two different weapons besides his own was particularly praiseworthy.
