    2/Lt. Jacques George Maurice Hirsch, 123 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery (Belgian Military Mission) awarded Military Cross
    Hirsch pictured receiving his Military Cross from Montgomery on 10th March 1945 at an investiture at Grande Place, Brussels.

    My father, Sgt (later BQMS) Frank Brown, was with 408 battery at Veghel and wrote about it in a diary I found after his death.
    His account is much in accordence with the official record, although he was rather more complimentary concerning the importance of the US paratroopers (presumably 101st Airborne) in what seems to have been a very lively action.
    Sgt (later, I think, BSM) Brunning recieved a richely deserved MM for his valiant actions.

    I assume Alan Brunning to be the BSM in the middle. The ribbon of the MM can be distinguished.
    I don't know why there are two WO2s or the significance of the single stripe beneath the crown and laurel.
    A relaxed and happy looking group, as well they might be, with their campaign ribbons and the 'rampant boar' of XXX Corps
    Dad is the particularly cheeful looking (typical of him) BQMS kneeling on the right.
