    S/Maj T/Lt-Col. J.R.C. Hamilton, (34438) HQ RE 6th Airborne Division

When 6th Airborne Division was rushed to the ARDENNES in December 1944, a very heavy responsibility fell o the Divisional Engineers. Bridges over the River MEUSE had to be prepared for demolition and reconnaissances made deep into disputed territory.

Later when the tide turned, extensive mine lifting was required over frozen roads and in vile conditions.

The fact that all these task were successfully completed were largely due to Lt Col HAMILTON, the CRE. He was constantly to the fore himself and his fine leadership inspired his men.
