In the attack of LE HAVRE, on the 11th & 10th September, Lt-Col. HOPE commanded his regiment in support of 34th Armoured Brigade. During the action Colonel HOPE again displayed complete disregard for danger. Having accompanied Commander 34th Armoured Brigade who was leading the first armoured thrust into the town from the EAST, Colonel. HOPE on foot lead forward a small party to engage with smalls arms fire enemy anti-tank guns which were concealed from our own armour and holding up our advance. Finding this insufficient, Colonel. HOPE then personally directed the fire of his regiment on to this enemy opposition, despite the fact that the Churchill tank in which Commander 34 Armoured Brigade and he was by this time mounted was again under fire from enemy Anti-tank weapons. Throughout these two days this Officer in the van when artillery support in street fighting looked like being required and displayed most marked gallantry and inspiring leadership under fire.
