Award Distinguished Conduct Medal S/Sgt. Allan A. Eastman, Troop D, 87th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (33082493)

A heavy enemy attack threatened to overrun Staff Sergeant EASTMAN's platoon in an action west of Regne, Belgium on 23rd December 1944. Quickly manning a machine gun, he delivered heavy and accurate ire upon the assaulting troops which slowed down the attack considerably. When his ammunition supply was exhausted, he courageously ran through an enemy artillery concentration to a burning tank and from atop the tan, opened fire with a .50 calibre machine gun upon the enemy, inflicting numerous casualties. Under tis covering fire, his men were able to move to more advantageous positions from which they were able to pace devastating fire upon the Germans. The gallantry and conspicuous leadership displayed by Staff Sergeant EASTMAN permitted his platoon to block the advance of numerically superior enemy force.
