Golden Cross (IV Class - if I'm correct) of the Order of the Virtuti Militari - For a soldier or officer, who was previously awarded with the Silver Cross and achieved an outstanding success on the battlefield thanks to his personal bravery or outstanding command of a division or a smaller unit. It's Poland’s highest military decoration. It can be compared to the American Medal of Honor or the British Victoria Cross.

Mine used to be an Order of Kutuzov 1st class (no, I don't own one but would love to!), now it's a propaganda poster "Motherland calls" (Motherland in Russian is Rodinu)

My avitar is for the Polish 2nd Corps that fought in Italy.

As my dad was with the Polish 2nd Corps I thought it would be appropriate.

My avatar is a picture of my grandad John William Church who, having fought and survived during ww1 went on to become a works fireman during the blitz at silvertown. he was often away from home for days on end and the family did not know if he was alive or dead.
he never spoke much about either war and sadly died before i was born, so i never knew him.

Susan, the reason your sig isn't shopwing is bandwidth (or something like that anyway). According to Our Noble Leader Lee it will show if you have over 50 words in a post, and then only once in a thread. I think. I am probably wrong. Again.

    Hi
I have spent more hours than I care to think of reading the posts of members. Some obviously are more interesting to me than others.
I am more and more intrigued by the avatars used and the personal dedications / signatures.
Some are obvious (and moving) but for us newer members would it be an imposition to ask what each of them mean and why you chose them?
    Thanks

    Thanks Jeff
    and your dedication because ...?

There are some beautiful poignant quotes and pieces of poetry.

Maybe I should have included screen names too!
    Cheers
