temptage I thought it would only take a few weeks......

My wife has passed on to me the tiniest bit of information from one of her friends whose son is trying to find out about his Grandfathers WW2 service record.

I am informed that Grandad NEVER spoke about anything about the War to his daughter. She doesnt know ANYTHING specific. No Regiment. Whether he was injured. Whether he was a POW. Nothing. Zip. Nada.

All we have to go on is his name - Robert Leinster Williamson

He is known to have survived D-Day..........and that's it.

I'm not expecting miracles, but any help would be appreciated so it can be passed back to his Grandson.

They have his full name, with his date of birth, death certificate and £30 hey can get his service records from MoD. That should tell them who he was with and when, then you can dig into the units concerned.

Mr Jinks, that must be him as he is the only Robert Leinster.

So was 814650 his service number? Are these records from pre-WW2 as some of the dates on the right hand side show dates as early as 1933, his being 1935 when he would have been 20.
Barfield and Groves also show dates of re-enlistment.

814650 is his service number .The entry is from The RA enlistment books .The enlistment is from 1930 (according to findmypast) which would make him a boy soldier however as it quotes Para 199(1) Territorial Army Regulations I am assuming he enlisted into the TA rather than regulars? `If` this is the right man then 814650 should have remained with him (although there are many exceptions to this rule)
