    Hello All,

Need some help I had the pleasure of Bill Higgs company last weekend with some Dutch friends... Bill was saying that he got to a Bar in Arnhem with a wall which is where he was wounded... The only place I can think of is Rhine Pavilion Bill flew into to Arnhem on the second lift so he would have been with 11 Para or The South Staffs.. Or would it have been D Comp 2 Para but I can't see that.. So where in fact is this place a bar with a wall around it close to Arnhem..And 2 Photos of the area and places...

Where did he fly from? Was he carrying troops alone or jeeps/guns? That should give a clue as to which unit he was carrying.

Is your Bill Higgs - S/Sgt D William Higgs of 22 Flight, D Sqn Glider Pilot Regt?

If so, he flew from Keevil on the 18th Sept and, looking at the info i have, mention is made by Higgs that 'we could see the Arnhem Bridge a mile away along the river Neder Rhine when we were attacked by Germans'.

However, on other accounts there is absolute conflicting evidence which states that the entire 22 Flight was to attach itself to A Coy 156 Para on arrival at LZ (D Squadron , GPR battle orders). If the latter is the case (which i believe it was) then there is no way on earth that anyone attached to 156 Para could have had a view of the Rhine as 156 Para never got anywhere near that area. Captain Muir, OIC of 22 flight, took his 30+ GPR squad and was definately attached to 156 Para. Bill Higgs states that ' I was with Capt Muir for the entire Battle', If this is so then there is a disparity of just who was where!

Alternatively, 'fog of war' issues may have caused Bill Higgs to become separated from the flight and attached to another unit.

You probably had all this info but, i thought id run through all this in an effort to try and identify which 'Bar' Bill was referring to, as if he was with 156 Para it wouldnt have been Arnhem but Oosterbeek.

    Enough waffle from me!

Did you mean B Company of the 2nd.....to the best of my knowledge no D Company in the 2nd Btn...... or C Company who were around here on the 17th/18th......

    Hello all,

Bill told me he was separated from Captain Muir quite early on. He would have been in the Dreyenseweg battle if he was still attached to Capt. Muir, wouldn't he?
As he told me he was wounded in a build up area, I think we can rule out he was with Capt. Muir.

Can you tell me where he states he was with Capt. Muir during the entire battle?

    Cheers, Toine
