Hi, On 13th January 2015 I posted a "general" enquiry (rather than NOK request) to APC Glasgow requesting the service record of a maternal uncle who died in 1985. I was making the request on behalf of his son who resides in Spain. From studying the paperwork my understanding was that as he had died over 25 years ago I was entitled to the same set of papers as if his NOK had applied within 25 years of his death. However to be on the safe side I enclosed a covering letter asking that if they could not provide me with a "full set" of papers" could they return the documentation and I would get my cousin to re submit as a NOK application. On 15th January I had a call from an APC clerk who informed me that my "general" request would only result in some redaction of personal information of other family members mentioned my uncles file - including my aunts name. I asked that he return the papers and I would have my cousin resubmit as per my covering letter. He advised me there was no need to do so. He would send me an email with a form of words that my cousin could use in his reply direct to APC to enable the application to proceed and full disclosure to follow. I heard nothing by email so thought perhaps on reflection the clerk had concluded I was entitled to full disclosure after all. I have applied previously and know how long the process can take but when I did not get the expected acknowledgement letter or saw that my cheque had not been cashed I thought it prudent I contact APC by phone for an update this week. The information I gleaned was that my application had not been processed due to staff sickness. I have received my application papers today by post with what appears to be a non specific covering letter with no mention of my conversation with the clerk back in January. The papers would appear have been lying "idle" in APC until I made contact on Wednesday. I shall send an email seeking clarification whether when I resubmit the application it will be "fast tracked" as I have lost almost 3 months waiting for the inadaquate reply I received today. Anyone any thoughts? Steve
Steve you are dealing with Civil Servants - friend of mine was in charge of a Gov't office in Calgary - one day received a letter from Ottawa to say that his staff should NOT look out of their office window before lunch - he queried this "suggestion" - SIX months later he had a reply which stated that they would have nothing to do after lunch he complied… Cheers
Since he died over 25 years ago, you would have been better signing the forms yourself as NOK  . I know of others who have done it and the MOD wouldn't know anyway would they? Lesley
I made an application for my uncle's Service Record on 31st Jan, (not as NOK because I'm not). He died in 1958. I got no response until 9th March when I got a standard letter saying "...due to the very high volume of urgent welfare requests....other enquiries are taking longer than we would like...." It also said they were enclosing an information sheet - which they didn't. On 25th March my cheque was cleared. I wait with patience. Chris
Just to complete my post...... I received my uncle's Service Record today - hurrah ! That's 2 months since my application went in.
