As you probably know the 2nd LFs were part of 11 Inf Bde and 78 Infantry Division, whilst not answering your request directly you may like to look at these diaries that contain the 78 Divisions operational orders and in particular No. 8 dated 13 April. Whilst at a higher level they give an overview of where and what was going on whilst you await a more detailed source. C Sqn of 56 Recce landed with Operation Torch so these diaries will give details from the initial landings. May help.

Edit: you may also like to read the London Gazette Supplement 38569 mentioned here:
    Operation Torch, Nov 1942.

The 2 LFs sailed on the Viceroy of India.

I have 1 Welch WD for December 1944. There are 60 pages. It is £0.07 a page. I can add the other file to my list, it would be £3 a file + £0.12 per page. Let me know, as I might be able to get it this weekend, depending on the size.

If anyone wants any files or British Army War Diaries etc copying that are held at the National Archives, drop me a Private Message re your requirements etc.

I charge 10p a page/image for any complete file, document or War Diary at the National Archives, Kew. Postage and Packing is FREE to anywhere in the world and a DVD is shipped to you on receipt of payment. I do charge an extra 5% for anyone paying by Paypal due to the charges for receiving funds via Paypal. If you are struggling to find a specific war diary I should be able to find it for you if one exists, all I need is the unit and date you are interested in. I will always confirm the diary before copying it. See post 48 onwards in this thread regarding the sort of information you can find within British Army War Diaries.

Please consider your requirements carefully before placing an order, whilst it is impossible to give a quote in advance regarding the cost of a file unitil it is ordered and copied (They vary so much in thickness) some can be as cheap as £1 or £2 but they can cost in excess of £70. As a guide I would say most cost between £20 and £50. Kew is a 400 mile round trip for me and its a long way to go to copy a file that someone decides they no longer want because it costs too much.

Anyone considering ordering files or war diaries but aren't quite too sure what they are after you might find browsing through the Excel sheets in the link below very useful. If you still can't find what you are looking for drop me a PM.

    Afternoon all,

I have just joined the forum as I am researching my great uncle’s service with the Royal Signals and specifically with HQ of 4 Line of Communications between 1940-Sept 1942 and subsequently when it became 8th Army Signals, and he served in the HQ of 8th Army Sigs. He served across the desert campaign, Sicily and Italy until Feb 1945 when he returned to the UK until the end of July 1945 when he was posted to Germany and served with H.Q.R.A, Guards Division until his demob in March 1946.

I am very fortunate to have a large amount of his letters home between 1940 and 1946 as well as various documents, and a copy of his service file. I am currently pulling all this wealth of information together into a chronological account.

I am conscious that due to the unit censor many details of places etc could not be put in his letters and ideally, I am trying to further enhance the information I have with places, moves, and other useful information about the unit and seeking copies of the war diaries, initially for 4 LofC.

Is there anyone currently undertaking obtaining digital copies of War Diaries at the National Archives that can assist, and price per image/work, I am looking for copies of the below war diaries together with any appendices. Many thanks Neil.

4 Line of Communication War Diaries:

    WO169 / 422 1 Nov to 31 Dec 1940.

    WO169 / 1968 for 1941

    WO169 / 5556 for 1942
