    Hi,

Just wondered where you're able to look-up other records at TNA, or just War Diaries/ documents relating to war? I ask as I'm currently researching someone who was a merchant seaman and in the future I believe there may be some doucments I need looking up.

    Thanks,
    Elissa

    Hi,

    I've sent you a PM

Just a quick heads up that I will be at the National Archives tomorrow and Tuesday if anyone wants any files/diaries copied.

I'm also shouting the brews at 0830hrs if you are going to be there. I'll be wearing a Olive Green T-Shirt with FUBAR or SNAFU written across the front. :D

I just want to publically congratulate Andy for all his work he's done.

My disc which he produced for me arrived by post on the 9th of July a few days after I sent payment. He took excellent photos of the records book which I asked if he could copy. They're perfect to read from.

The ORB content was really good and informative. It seems the original record keeper wanted to record as much as he could about the day.It was great to see so much about incidents, social activities and weather conditions.

My dad told me that snow fell while his dad was in his tent in Algeria.Turns out it snowed a lot in Setif during early 1944 and it is all recorded down.

It has brought a lot of stories I have heard about to life.

Thanks once again for your work

    Jonathan

I'll echo Jonathan's words here. I've been "Pleased as Punch" with all the records that he has sent.
You are an archive hero :)

P.S. any chance of those additonal RSF pages when you are there next ;)

As has been said above, i've been really pleased with Andy's service. It cost me less than the return rail fare and accommodation would have (and that was with 760 pages!).

I've now got a trove of info to sort through and more research to do, plus some of the documents are in my grandfather's handwriting, as he ended up with a desk job having been injured in Normandy.

    Many thanks once again

    William

They were already untagged in an envelope John. I don't untag anything from a file.

They do allow you to untag docs, but you must go to the desk in the reading room for permission. If granted, they will put you into a supervised locked room, where you are watched on camera to make sure you don't take anything.

Done this a number of times where the docs were folded and impossible to read.
