    Hi Jules and REMEDesertRat,
It would be a great coincidence if that is your Granddad.
And thanks for info on headgear.
I have many other photos but too many to post. There is one he took of one his armoured car ("my old bus" in his words) with a colleague at the turret. No time at the moment but will put it on later. Dont know what other photos would be of interest?
I answer to your question, he was posted to 11th Hussars in Egypt on 2 March 1937 and subsequently served in Palestine (Safad, Nablus and Jerusalem) in 1938 (hence his GS medal with Palestine clasp I presume).
    Will post more pics later.
    thanks again
    Laurie

Some pix from Dad's album. Probably 37/38. The note on the back of Car2 is "Cpl Moose, my car commander with my bus". Note on back of Cars 4 is "Crew with Armoured Car X11 Lancers".

More super photos Laurie. Thank you for posting them. Is that your Dad in the first one? Something seems to have tickled his sense of humour :D

According to Dad's comment on the back of the photo that must be Cpl Moose, his car commander. Yes, it ceratinly looks like there is some banter going on!!

cars-2 shows a Rolls - Royce armoured car I think, not sure of the others

Edit: more info on armoured cars in north africa, click here

Another edit: I notice in the first pic, the car has been named BALA, as you Father is from N. Wales, not far from BALA, could he have had a hand in naming it?

Yes my brother and I wondered about BALA. It could be named after that town althought my Dad came from Bangor but if the rest of the crew were welsh then a central welsh town would be a good british compromise. I dont know if it was common practice to name armoured cars ? However another thought we had was that it is an acronym for something (eg British Army something something). Perhaps someone can enlighted us.

I think tanks and armoured cars were regularly given names. You could ask in Weapons, Technology & Equipment forum, i'm sure some of the experts there could give you chapter and verse about these vehicles.

    Hi there,

Not sure if you're still following this thread but I'm compiling a bit of info around my Grandad during WW2 and he was one of the men saved by your dad - Tpr Spencer. It's been fascinating reading this and would be great to hear if you have managed to find any more info.
