Can anyone who speaks German please let me know what this note written on a 1943 dated map of Germany says? Does it indicate which unit owned the map or something else.

    Many thanks,

    Simon.

I doubt that the numbers refer to a unit. Bayeux is a town next to Arromanches.

    Aixman,

many thanks for the translation. The map is Bayeux Nr. 7-8 and shows the area to the West of Caen. It came with another map, also dated 1943, Nr.29 Caen Nord-West, which shows the coastline that was to become Juno beach.

They were in a box of assorted maps under a dealer's table at an antique fair yesterday. He had got them from a house clearance and they were probably taken as a souvenir back in 1944.

    Simon.
