Dull wasn't an issue for the two games I saw over the weekend. Alabama vs Tennessee was head and shoulders the game of the year so far. Fantastic even though my favorite team lost. Hopefully they will meet again in the SEC championship if Tennessee can beat Georgia in November. The Bills vs the Chiefs on Sunday was just as good. Four great quarterbacks in action.
Where teams are equally matched the top flight English football managers usually contrive to kill the game by yelling at their players to follow their plans, even to the extent of being so upset with everything that they are sent off for abusing the officials, a trend which is becoming ridiculous. Or, in the top flight, the Video referee ("VAR" ) knocks away the excitement by watching replays from various camera angles. This takes ages. In the FA Cup at lowly football grounds you don't get VAR but the mismatch often results in one side dominating possession, and some unnecessary injuries can occur because of frustration, etc. It can happen that a higher manager sends out his reserve team who get trounced by the lower league team who are used to a rougher type of football. What the fans want is lots of goals, not punch ups, but managers hate lots of goals. My team lost recently but scored 5 goals against 7 to the home side. Neither team has much of a defence, and my team does not even have a proper striker, according to my fellow fans. See here: By the way, Wrexham are now owned by Americans with connections to Hollywood and we all hope they achieve promotion to a better league. As for Alabama v Tennessee, I am glad the winning coach stuck a cigar in his mouth, albeit with the wrapper still on, and if nobody lit a flare I am delighted ( unfortunately something that happens in England.) Some minor infringements ensued, apparently: "Fans tore down the goalposts after the Volunteers upset Alabama on Saturday night, 52-49. The fans paraded the goalposts through Knoxville before they dumped them into the river."
If this guy decides on Naval Aviation when he graduates his call sign is going to be "Fumbles" for sure. Navy loses to Army after brutal fumble in double overtime
Those are the teams win-lose records for the 2023 season Alabama's revenge for Auburn's even bigger miracle win ten years ago. That play only had one second left on the clock.
Thanks. 6-6 next time. Perhaps they'll live and learn. This chap may have bet his mortgage on the result. ( It's only a game ? )
They're used to it. Auburn usually has a pretty good team but Alabama is a championship contender every year. "Jalen Milroe took the snap and had all day to throw". I noticed that. The defense ( defence ) must have thought they could not afford a ten -yard penalty and an automatic first down ( get me ! ) so stood back. I expect there will be an inquest and people being upended into dustbins full of energy drink, or maybe that is reserved for winning managers ( or coaches, as you say.) I hope the audience recover their composure. I am impressed with the size of the crowd. $10 a ticket ? In the meantime, my team has lost four on the spin. I'm surprised they win anything, anyway. The owner gets the main income for the stadium from hosting weddings with guests at £200 plus a go. My 60+ ticket would only be about £15, ( I don't bother going, ULEZ extension zone and all that. ) This is far too much for the league we are in. A season ticket for my local tier 7 team is £100. Tom Hanks often appears on the Graham Norton show on BBC 1, so I have heard of him. I may have seen Forrest Gump, I think he liked mowing lawns.
The Disaster in the Pasture. For the uninitiated, Bama fans refer to Auburn as The Barn or the Cow College. It is a engineering and agricultural university. A good school, I just hate the football team. The game should have never been this close, given the ass-whipping New Mexico State laid on the barn last week. I guess that is why they play the game. Go to the 2:00 mark. the Barn disrespected nationally
Gosh ! Wealdstone v Barnet may not match that- the great north London football rivalry you've never heard of- but this link goes to an account: "An amusing moment just prior to kick off came when several of our fans went to start “Have you ever won the Conference…” before others quickly turned to them with a teeth gritted whisper of “they have,” which led to an abrupt stop. The lad next to me blamed mob mentality. You’ve got to laugh at yourselves, some times." Downhill Second Half - A Barnet FC Archive | Viewing Article
Average is $320/seat but I bet it is much higher for cross state rival Alabama. Way too much for me. Stadium holds 87,451. Each school in the conference gets $50 million/year from the TV contract and the head coaches at the state schools are the highest paid state employees in their states.
No wonder there were tears ! I could get a season ticket for that, and still have change. Premier league prices are all over the place, and are sold out usually, so just as a guide: Club Stadium Ticket Price Range Arsenal Emirates Stadium £28.50 - £103.00 Aston Villa Villa Park £48.00 - £80.00 Bournemouth Vitality Stadium £28.00 - £53.00 Brentford Gtech Community Stadium £30.00 - £65.00 Brighton & Hove Albion American Express Community Stadium £30.00 - £65.00 Burnley Turf Moor £16.00 - £60.00 Chelsea Stamford Bridge £25.00 - £71.00 Crystal Palace Selhurst Park £48.00 - £58.00 Everton Goodison Park £55.00 Fulham Craven Cottage £25.00 - £50.00 Liverpool Anfield £9.00 - £60.00 Luton Town Kenilworth Road To be confirmed Manchester City Etihad Stadium £58.00 - £75.00 Manchester United Old Trafford £36.00 - £58.00 Newcastle United St James’ Park £32.00 - £70.00 Nottingham Forest City Ground £42.00 - £52.00 Sheffield United Bramall Lane £32.00 - £47.00 Tottenham Hotspur Tottenham Hotspur Stadium £37.00 - £103.00 West Ham United London Stadium £50.00 - £100.00 Wolverhampton Wanderers Molineux £35.00 - £63.50
Alabama's stadium, Bryant-Denny, seats a little over 100,000. On game day, Tuscaloosa is the most populous city in the state, as there are about that many more people tailgaiting and hitting restaurants and bars.
Miami plays in Kansas City Saturday night in an outdoor stadium. -1 F at kickoff. I'll be in my recliner and slippers sipping a Wild Turkey, unlike 75,000 nuts out there.
Your way to watch the game was definitely the way to go Dave Minus how much? Wind-chill what???!!! Kind regards, always, Jim.
This is what happens when a 210 pound safety runs head on into a 220 pound quarterback at full speed when it's -6F. Fortunately he didn't show any adverse effects, just got a new helmet.
