    73.8% of other ranks, and 57.9% of officer casualties suffered by the PBI.

    I can't remember which smart chap said the acronym PBI should be Poor bloody infantry. Read it in a book somewhere. Probably was a infanteer. Some of them are bright sparks, probably more than some officers.:D

    PBI does indeed stand for that.
    They used that term in the The Great War.
