    AIRBORNE FORCES

Airborne forces were not strictly part of 21 Army Group but remained under the control of
Supreme Headquarters. However they did play a large part in the campaign. They were used
in Normandy both to secure key points on D Day and then for a further month in a ground
role. They took part in the ill fated Arnhem action. They were used again in a ground role
during the Ardennes offensive. Finally they were dropped in support of the Rhine Crossing
and employed in the final drive into Germany.
