1964 nearly 6 foot, 14 years old I joined the ACF, my father a pre war regular airman - all cotton shirts and tailored service dress. Wryly look at the Khaki heap and said still smells like Pongo! Joking apart he soon had creases that could draw blood! Hot spooned boots ammo rubbed with sandpaper skinned up and soon looking like the black diamonds I later wore as a Guardsman. I still think that No 8 Dress (BD) Battledress worn properly with blancoed belt and gaiters/anklets is unbeatable. The shirt- Shirt KF like the BD should have been listed as Shirt skin abrasion for the use of. I like many others in the regiment got the tailor shop to semi line the armpit area on KF shirts. The joke used to be with National Servicemen that if when issued your BD fitted you, they discharged you for being deformed.
