I think I may have found another non-commemorated in my local Cemetery As named above, we have an Adolph Olsen who was a Fireman on board the SS Erna III. SS Erna III was sunk by torpedo in 1941, with the loss of 27 (all commemorated by the CWGC), but Adolph Olsen died on 26th November 1940. The ship was taken over by the British and renamed SS Erna III (originally called Erna by the Danish) on 26th June 1940 by the Ministry of War Transport. So from that point on, the ship was serving under the British Government, so if that is proven, then Adolph should be commemorated, no?
His death was apparently unrelated to enemy action. Norwegian casualties/ British ships - Norwegian Merchant Fleet 1939-1945
The CWGC are governed with regard to MN commemorations by a very strict rule set which they apply to each and every case. “We commemorate all sailors of the Commonwealth Merchant Navies (and specified associated auxiliary organisations and the fishing fleet) who died, while signed on for a voyage: • as a result of enemy action; • while detained by the enemy; or • as a result of the increased risks specified in the Pensions (Mercantile Marine) Act 1942.” The death also had to be reported – as a death by enemy action or increased war risk - by the RGSS of the time. Adolf Olsen died due to an accident at Immingham Dock - supposed drowned. Regards Hugh
