    Today, 89 years ago, Aden was separated from British- India.

    Aden city and port was a Crown Colony and the "back country" was a Protectorate, with local hereditary rulers till 1967. British rule began in 1838 with the British East India Company (India-based rule ended in 1937) and a scramble to leave in November 1967. A rather good Wiki: Aden - Wikipedia

    Now, sadly known for a civil war and violence - whether terrorism, insurgency, tribal and political. It's strategic position makes it important to others. It is very hot and a Royal Marine remarked you could fry an egg on a sheet of bare metal anchored in the port.
