I have recently received my Grandads war records from MOD (after more than 12 months wait) and am trying to decipher my way through them. He was in RASC from June 1941 to 1946 and served in MEF and BNAF I dont understand a couple of the entries and wondered if anyone can help with these. on 1/1/1942 he was ‘granted leave with HRRH’ and on 12/2/1942 was ‘Posted to Draft RHGGH’ Does anyone know what HRRH and RHGGH mean please.
Hi, It’s always best to post an image of the queried text to provide context and in case the transcription may not be accurate. I agree with Tony that the 5 letters are likely a draft code. Without seeing the original in context I’d say your HRRH may be HRRA = Higher Rate Ration Allowance. A cash payment made to men on leave in lieu of the provision of service rations. Steve
Thank you for your reply. Looking again I think you are right it may say HRRA and that makes sense. I will try post photos of the sections if I can figure out how to do it.
Hi, Thanks for posting the documents (P1 posted twice) There is another leave related acronym on P2 where H/R/M = Higher Rate Messing (Allowance). It is an interchangeable term with HRRA. Steve
One of them says "granted leave with HRRA 1/1/42 to 8/1/42" I believe HRRA in this instance is some form of allowance The other states "Posted to draft RHGGH w.e.f (with effect from) 12.2.42 SCRS 13.2 42" This is draft recognition code used to define everyone and everything that was to be aboard a ship for a particular departure, similar to a boarding card today with its relevant flight number So basically he had a weeks leave before being shipped off to Middle East TD
