This battery were at Arras with Petreforce in May 1940. The war diary for May appears to be missing. does anyone have anything on this unit?

Jerry - Drop me a PM with a link and I'll check next week for you when I have time. There may be some stuff on them in Farndale.

WO 167/461 and WO 167/462 give you the regiment and the battery diaries.

You might like to check the War Diary for 97th (Kent Yeomanry) Field Regiment as A/E Battery was under command of that Regiment from late April 1940 when 1 RHA was made part of Saar Force.

A/E Battery from 1 RHA was swapped with 385 Battery from 97th Field Regiment as it was felt that the Gun tractors that the Battery was equipped with were better suited to making the long journey to the Saar from the BEF's operational area.

Unlike most of 51st Division 70% of 385 Battery escaped going into the bag in June 1940. Most of the units personnel made it to the beach at Veules les Roses on the 11/12 June 1940. The Battery Commander (Major Mullens) was awarded the DSO for this action.

Information from Farndale and Saul David's Book on 51st DIvision.

    Hope that helps
