Is anyone able to help me?I've recently started helping some people in the Netherlands who have adopted the graves of some of the men killed in action during WW2. I am currently researching Private John Brotherton, from Rotherham. He died on 26/12/44, aged 31 and is buried at Venray cemetery. I have found the war diaries, thanks to this site. He was in the 8th battalion, Royal Scots. The diaries show that day to be quiet and the previous day, Christmas day and from what I've read they seemed to have moved on from the area by this time. Does this mean he likely died from wounds on this day and is there anywhere else I can find information about him? Thank you.
Casualty list states that he 'died from wounds', as per your assumption. Unless it is stated in any other reference source, diaries, reports, histories etc., then I guess the only other way may be his service records that may show when he was moved to a CCS or hospitalised. Casualty Details | CWGC Concentration form also states D/W, died of wounds
