Hello, does someone have any information(or photographs) about the group of the 7th battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders who were stationed in Unterlüss, Germany after they arrived there ? Kind regards Malte Rabe
Hi Malte, Welcome to this Forum Good luck with your research. I am sure one or more members will be able to help. Until 1966 I lived close to Hanover Airport Stefan.
The regiment was not stationed there see https://britisharmyingermany.com/8th-corps-district/3290-2/46th-infantry-brigade this town was home to 5th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment (Duke of Edinburgh’s) and Headquarters Royal Army Ordnance Corps 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division, my thoughts are the group were collecting prisoners or displaced persons for Neuengamme or Pinneberg Camps. Best of luck with your research
7th Seaforth were approaching Lubeck on 4th May 1945 when German army surrendered. The Battalion occupied Kiel until its disbandment in January 1946. Which included operations stated in above reply. Thank you! HA96 And thanks! Owen Historic Steve Yes maybe not properly stationed but in the history of the Rheinmetall AG one can read that the 7th Battalion of the Seaforth Highlanders have been to Unterlüss(in 1945) to liberate the workers and to take the machinery... Could you tell me which regiment in Unterlüss was until September 1946(a information from a love letter my great grandfather wrote) ? Because that’s the time when my great grandfather had to go away from Unterlüss ... so I manly search my great grandfather who’s surname I don’t know because my great grandmother never talked about him...I have only the photograph(profile picture) with the love letter at its back ...the other photographs have been burned by my great grandmother sadly ... Are there maybe lists of the men who were there ? Monty's Northern Legions Here is something written about a mayor green who was commander of Unterlüss...but I can’t find out in which regiment he was Thank you ! Kind regards Malte Rabe
Malte Rabe According to Kew documentation for 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division the 5th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment (Duke of Edinburgh’s) of 129th Infantry Brigade were located as follows: 9 Jul 45 – Hermannsburger Straße 70, Unterlüss north-east of Celle, Landkreis Celle 1 Apr 46 – disbanded and no record of who replaced them but possibly a company of 4th Battalion Somerset Light Infantry who were stationed in Celle, then on 4 Jun 45 relieved by 1st Battalion Green Howards (Alexandra, Princess of Wales's Own Yorkshire Regiment) until 10 Dec 46. There must have been a shortage of troops there also recorded: 27 Aug 45 – 1 Platoon of 9th Polish Infantry Battalion of 1st Polish Armoured Division until 16 Jan 46. 30 Jun 46 – 43rd (Wessex) Infantry Division was disbanded and 15th Infantry Brigade of 5th Infantry Division were then responsible for Landkreis Celle. Hope this helps

Steve, That link looks interesting, I have been trying to research my early life in Hanover when I was a boy of may be 10 or so. My dad was a POW in Southern Denmark and in 1945 was sent to Hanover and worked as a plumper for Army officers to refurbish their "rented" houses in Hanover. Stefan.
The Battalion occupied Kiel until its disbandment in January 1946. Obviously I should not have quoted from Angus Fairrie book.
