Hello Buteman, I was wondering if you may help me. I recently visited Al Alamein cemetery to pay respects to my Great Great Uncle Corporal Ewart Blackwell of the same regiment (The Leeds Rifles), who was killed in action on 26/10/1942. Sadly I have no images of Ewart, and I am desperately trying to track down any photographs of him to put a face to the name. Do you by any chance have any group company/regiment photographs of the 45th to share? Best wishes, Tom Fairhurst

Hello Tom..i have only a couple with only a few lads on unfortunately but happy to share them if required. I presume you have the Addeyman book published some time ago but there are a couple in there as well? I can dig it out this coming weekend if you haven't already seen it. RegardsTony

Hello Tony, thank you for the prompt response - any photos with any possible background information would be greatly welcomed. To date, I do not have a copy of the Addyman book - my father sourced an excerpt concerning the circumstances of Ewart's death at the 'Snipe/Kidney Ridge' area of Al Alamein - but I am unsure if this is covered in the Addyman book itself. A copy would be greatly appreciated, thank you. I also very recently visited the commonwealth cemetery at Al Alamein, alongside the exact Kidney Ridge/Snipe area according to the maps. The cemetery was beautifully maintained, but unfortunately the ridge/snipe area appeared to be subject to groundworks with culverts running through the land to wider industrial areas. Nonetheless if any readers would like tips on a guide or photos of my visit, do let me know. Thanks, Tom
