If I get the time over the weekend I will try and prep a few more pages and upload them, there is a map and locations for other units. I wonder if this should go into a different topic ?
Hi there. My Dad was with 196 anti-tank battery "E" troop I think he might have been at Speedorf, he used to talk about distributing the rations. He also mentioned about the 8th armoured brigade as he used to wear the Geboa on his sleeves. Prior to that he was part of 30th British Corps. Regards June.
Hi June, I dont know which battery my Grandad would have been and dont know how to find out if its possible. I wonder if they were in the same troop ??? Ben
Batteries 198&234 where S.P. Batteries where the guns were operated on tank chassies. 195,196 & 197 batteries were equipt with 17pounder guns. They were towed by the Morris guy quad artillery tractors. 198 & 234 Batteries landed on the first tide on Gold Beach on D-Day. I have the nominal roll for 196 battery. What was your granddads name?. Other information re. which battery your Granddad served with should be on his service records. Your grandad may have been a member of either 198 0r 234 bty. I know it was 198 that went to the Far East. When did your Granddad enlist. My Dad Joined at 18 in 1942. so he was quite battle hardened at the end. regards June
Hi. I have just joined. I am looking for information about Gnr Eric Weeden who served in the 73rd AT Ref. I know that he landed on D+1 and he mentioned 17Pdrs and Bren Gun Carriers. I also know that he was in Antwerp before being shipped to India. I see that you have a nominal roll of 196 battery. Would you be so kind as to see if he is listed on it. Many thanks.
