Hi everyone, my Father's last posting, from end of July 1945 to December 1945, was with the 71st Field (W.R.) Regiment in Austria. All I know is that it was part of the occupying force in Austria. I don't know where in Austria. Any information will be appreciated. Diane
Hi, my father was in the 71st Field Regt R.A. In Austria they were stationed in Carinthia in the south of Austria, bordering the then Yugoslavia. My father met my mother here , and I have relations there. The capital of Carinthia is Klagenfurt--which has a British war cemetery . Hope this is all of some use , john
Dianne The 71 Field Arty battery was part of the 46th Division HQ troops in Austria and their HQ was in GRAZ - near the border of Yugoslavia at that time - Carinthia is the next county to the west of Graz …..and was basically looked after by 6th Armoured Division - 78th Division being over to the west at Spital - some units of 78th looked after Vienna... Cheers
