    During the night of 6th/7th June a strong enemy patrol met elements of `B` Company around the area of Battalion headquarters In the firefight which followed the Germans were driven off but the battalion lost one man killed and another seriously wounded.This was listed as the the first 9th DLI casualty of the campaign although a Sgt in the signals attached to the battalion had drowned during the initial landings(Moses Gateshead Gurkhas).
    Two casualties are recorded for the 9th DLI for D-Day ;-
