The 2nd Bn, The Devonshire Regiment, were part of the 231st Infantry Brigade, 50th (Northumbrian) Division and landed mainly on Jig Red, GOLD BEACH, just to the east of La Hamel and 45 minutes behind the 1st Bn, The Dorsetshire Regiment - also of the 231st Infantry Brigade. This was the reserve Battalion to the first wave to land in the right hand sector of GOLD BEACH.

The 2nd Bn, The Devonshire Regiment were subject to sporadic machine gun and artillery fire on the beaches, before moving inland... but had, with the rest of 231st Brigade, achieved an approximate 6 mile foothold in Normandy by last light on D-Day.

The 2nd Bn, The Devonshire Regiment suffered 31 KIA on D-Day.

    RIP Private Stone. :poppy:

    Best,

    Steve.
