I own a James ML motorcycle which was found in a barn in Cormelles-Le-Royal in 1999. The bike has its original war time markings which are of the 1st Battery of a Royal Artillery Regiment. It also has a vertical
Yellow line painted on the chaincase which were applied to help with weight and balance calculations in a glider. From equipment tables I have been able to determine that it could have belonged to either the 53rd (Worcester Yeomanry) Airlanding Light Regiment RA or the 2nd Airlanding Anti Aircraft Battery RA.

I would be most grateful if anyone can tell me if either or both of these Regiments would have fought close to Cormelles-Le-Royal

    Hello Echobank,

I can find no evidence of an Airborne RA unit near Cormelles-Le-Royal. Of course after the front moved forward in early August 44 trips could have been made to Caens and area. The WDs available on the Pegasus Archive may be helpful in confirming that.

Any kind of documentation you have especially with regard 2nd Airlanding Anti Aircraft Battery RA would be helpful to other members seeking information on the detachment sent in with the 6th Airborne.

Also I'm sure the WW2Talk military motorcycle enthusiast would love to see any pics of your James ML. Is it what is known as the "Clockwork Mouse"?

    Regards ..
