    Biggest desert war 'What If' - instead of Godwin-Austen, arguably the winner of CRUSADER, being allowed to resign after the sh*tshow in January 1942, Ritchie is recalled to Cairo as CoS for the Auk, and Godwin-Austen promoted to command Eighth Army.

    Godwin-Austen was the only competent one of four Corps and Army commanders in autumn and winter 1941/42.
