Is there a way I can find out/confirm that 653 Road Construction Company Royal Engineers saw service in Malaya/Burma in WW2 ?

    Regards

There is a previous threat, it may help: 653 Road Construction Coy, Royal Engineers and royal engineers 653 coy

There is a reference to them in this UK RE Journal, plus a list of regular units in 1945: https://www.nzsappers.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Corps-History-Vol-10.pdf

It appears they were in Normandy after D-Day: Fallen Heroes of Normandy | List

See: Assessment : British Aerodrome of Coulombs (B-6) Note the "parent" formation is id'd:
Have you searched the CWGC records, that could help? Done that only one dead, the man in Normandy. Personally I find the CWGC hard to search for sub-units.

On German auction site in 2018, for an auction in Somerset, is this soldier's medals and the description states:
From: A R ENGINEERS GROUP OF FIVE MEDALS & PAPERWORK etc !939/45 - France & Germany Stars, Defence & Wa

A DIY guide, which has some clues: General Construction Companies - Royal Engineers - Researching WW2

There is a very useful order of battle website and oddly this unit does not appear when doing a Google search. I have found "rear area" units rarely have any online presence, so it might be back to checking war diaries etc.
