Thanls Paul, i have PM to you my email.
Frank, Thanks for that, very interesting! And yes a 4 day trip to Italy sounds brilliant. Fingers crossed we will all emerge from this winter into a more hopeful summer. In the meantime we can use this time for research. Cheers again for info! So great to read about this fascinating regiment that my great uncle served in. I have more photos if you think I should post.

I have this photo with Bill in a group shot. I believe it's 8th army but not sure, has anyone seen this before, any ideas where it might be taken?

I think it was during their time in Madagascar. 5 Recce Regt provide a force to support 13 and 17 Inf Beds who were pinged for this task. Operation IRONCLAD.

The British Liberation Army was the one that landed in Normandy in Jun 44. 5 Inf Div joined them from Italy in Mar 45.

Hi - my Dad was in 5th Recce from Tower Hamlets Rifle Brigade - so there's a possibility they knew each other - just trying to piece together his wartime record - he died young so I couldn't ask him in person - main duties seem to have been in India, Iraq and North Africa which I think also included Palestine

Could be India judging by the turbaned figure sitting in the middle of the front row? or perhaps Iraq? do you have a better quality scan - I think there's a possibility my Dad will also be in the photo but can't really tell
