B14344 22 set ground station and crew with staff officers. Set used for working forward from brigade to battalion. Wireless Set No. 22 is the Royal Signals "maid of all work" set. It is the means by which a brigadier commander can talk to his battalion commanders up to 15 miles away. It is normally carried in a truck, but is often worked from a slit trench (as in the pictures). In hilly country it is carried on mules or in three man-pack loads. It is used in assault landings in wireless handcarts and it is dropped by parachute - with valves in position - for use by Airborne Signals.
