55th A/T Suffolk Yeomanry, 49th West Riding Division (Infantry) information.

Discussion in 'Royal Artillery' started by James Atkinson, Jun 8, 2019.

  1. Hi everyone

I’m looking for any information or leads / combat / photographs and uniform badges for the 49th West Riding Division. I’m keen to know more about the Suffolk Yeomanry that we’re attached as the 55th Anti Tank, and their time In Normandy.
    Can anyone help ?

    Best wishes
    James

Have you got the War Diary/need a copy, June to December 1944?

  3. I don’t have the war diary no, but would love to have a copy.

    Best wishes

Gooch kept a diary? I would love to see that file for June/July...

I have the basic WD for 1945 as well if you are interested. (That is, I don't have the pages of "personnel return forms" - forget their names.) Also there was a very small (36 page) history of the regiment made at the end of the war, which some kind forum member gave me. I hope I'm not being inappropriate in mentioning it. Start a conversation with me (via inbox) if you like.

There is also one interview recording with a gunner of 55SY on the IWM website.

By any chance do you have copies of the Appendices to the Narrative War Diary for August - my uncle was KIA on 8/8/44 and there is no reference to this in the Narrative... I'm presuming that details of the action/incident that caused his death would be in a Casualty List (or similar).
If you don't have this, do you know where I can obtain it?
BTW my uncle was Gunner Richard Parker 3608065

Do you have the Gooch Diary that you could share with me? I can't read it on the IWM site.

    Regards Bill
