There is a description of the circumstance regarding the death of Chaplain 4th Class The Rev. HARRY SMITH here: IWM interview | Imperial War Museums reel number 4
Hi Paul, Here's an extract from "Bud" Abbots diary that he sent me a while back that details the circumstances of how several members of his Troop were killed on 18.8.44. I hope you can read it OK. Cheers, Jamie
Jamie thanks for posting. Eyewitness accounts always add more to an incident than what a War Diary records. Cheers Paul
Just stumbled across this forum after researching my grandfather's regiment. "Bud" Abbot was my grandfather. I've got all his old diaries and photographs from the War and I am going to start digitising what I can. If any are interested I believe the Imperial War Museum in London has archive audio recordings of his account of the War.

As CWGC have him listed as 15 Recce what proof do you have that he served with 53 Recce. I only ask because CWGC will require proof to change their records if they are wrong Cheers Paul
Just scanned through Scottish Lion on Patrol & L S Jackson was killed when C Sqn 15 Recce was over-run at Nettlecamp - Engaged in close combat with enemy - 14 Apr 45 Cheers Paul
