Hi, I am researching all the servicemen from my home village of Brotherton in Yorkshire who died in WW2 (done WW1). One was Frank Wilkinson 524 Squadron Service No. 553866 Died 4/3/45 Would be grateful for any info as to what was going down on that date or anything else relating to Frank. Thanks
If you have no response to your request then I suggest you apply for the 524 Squadron ORB for the relevant month/year. the cost is £3.30 per month http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D8414283
Because I was researching the crash and crew of W/O John J Brogan and my brother-in-law Flt/Sgt Frederick A Harris who crashed on take-off on 26 March 1945 I downloaded the ORB for March 1945 and the following is what is written about the loss of the Wellington in which F/O Wilkinson was killed. Hope this is of some help. 3rd March 1945 Wellington T Box Patrol “R” Took off 1845 Crew: F/L A Crabtree F/S K Jones W/O J D R Pugsley W/O C W Powers W/O F Wilkinson W/O A J Bezant W/O B R Nelsons Message by VHF giving ETA 0156 Aircraft failed to return Pat Harris
Thank you very much for that. Every bit helps. Sorry to take so long to respond but just managed to get started again after the Christmas/NY break. Edwin
