    Hello

I'm researching my uncle Bill's war service with 2BnEYR. I've managed to decipher quite a few entries from the responses to members' queries on this site; but I've been unable to establish the meaning of two entries in particular:

Bill enlisted on 03/09/1942. He was transferred to the East Yorks and posted to 5 ITC Richmond on 14/10/1942. His record states he was 'trans to Spec Coy wef 16/10/1942 'Richmond. What was "Spec Coy"? I wondered if this related to pre-D-day training in Scotland?

On 1/2/43,his record shows 'PA to 11Bn Green Howards'
9.3.43 Unit DSAF (I think) the next entry begins with a short word/ abbreviation I can't make out;but continues: ' DSAF for prob. Period 21 days wef 8.3.43 Authority .... Place C'Field'. What was the DSAF?

My late mum said Bill had volunteered for parachute training; but withdrew due to a death during ballon jump training. I thought DSAF might have been a reference to Hardwick Hall; but a very helpful researcher at Paradata.org could find no record of Bill.

10/4/43 Unit 2EYR ' posted from 11 Bn Green Howards authority....'
10/12/43 Unit 2EYR 'upgraded to AI scale D weft
    Embarked 3/6/44

30 Jun 44 Unit 2EYR 'wounded 28 Jun44 and adm 8 Br Fd Amb. Evac UK and adm 4 CDn Gen Hosp 30Jun. SOS AG. Bill May have been wounded at the 2EYR action at Chateau de la Londe but I have no way of evidencing this.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions as to the meaning of the two references or pointers.

I've attached two pages from Bill's service records and the only two photos I have of Bill in uniform - both when he had transferred to the Foresters. In the DON R photo Bill is the corporal on the far left nearest to the top of the steps.

In the 1950s Bill joined the RAF and understand he saw service in Australia; obtaining his RAF records is my next step.

    Regards

After much searching and some very odd search results I've found that the abbreviation DSAF means Depot and School Airborne Forces.

As I said in my original post, I thought that it might have been connected to Hardwick Hall; but Paradata.org could find no trace of Bill.

    Any suggestions?
