Yesterday, the weather was nice, Jeroen Niels, and myself went to Papendal to clear out the trenches, that were used by 4th Parachute Brigade on the 19th, before crossing the railwayline, I started this little project in april 2004. This is the second time it was cleaned up after 2004.

the enclosed photographs showed it how it was when we started and when we finished after a lot of sweating :salut:

After cleaning, we both decided to place new poles and a new enclosure, (before September this year) but we also want to place a permanent sign in dutch and english, so tell that mountainbikers, hickers and visitors what the meaning it of this.

We don't know know yet and cost of such sign, but when we have guide price, why will try to get it funded by someone, if not the case we want to ask people to donate some money, to get the sign made, they cost will be kept as low as possible as soon as I know more, or need some money from you wallets :D I will post it

Some photographs of yesterday, before and after the cleaning.

    Hi Philip,

I know you are very experience with this.

    But can you tell me;
    - how do you know it is a trench
    - how do you know it was used or made by the 4th parachute brigade

    I am very interrested.

    Greetings

    Tanja

    Hi Philip,

I never thought of a wardiary and veterans. Of course I know that the veterans have shared a lot of information. But this is realy good.

I would like to see the photo of the bigger one.

So this means that you have maps of these periods as well.

    Greetings

    Tanja

Well ... that is not what I was suggesting o_O. But does this mean there are more of these slit trenches ? :)

Philip, is that spot within the borders of the Municipality of Renkum or Arnhem? I just ask as i believe the Municipality of Renkum does not want
more Airborne Memorials, at least i have read that some years ago.
Maybe they have changed their policy later...not sure.

We have a guiding price for a total of 400,- euro, Jeroen and myself want to try to get the money together, as soon as possible, this will probably have to come from private sponsoring, within 2 weeks time I hope to post the design on the site, so people can see what it will be and hopeful donate some money, I have enclosed a photograph of what type of sign it will be.

If there are people who want to donate some money, plese let me know.

Philip, great respect sir & many many thanks for your time and effort.
My Dad - Sgt L.F.Carter - was with B-Coy 10th Bn and died on 19th, my guess is somewhere in the woods south of the railway.

Can you mark a map exactly were these trenches ("fox holes" as they are called) are located.
I will be coming to Arnhem sometime later this year & would like to see them & place them in my portfolio.
