The 4th Bn Green Howards were in 150th Infantry Brigade, 50th (Northumbrian) Division. The had fought in Belgium and France with the BEF, before evacuation from Dunkirk/Bray Dunes on approximately 1 June 1940.

Given his date of death is when Fifty Div were briefly located in the UK, I can only assume that Private Garwood died of wounds received during his time with the BEF or in an accident.

    RIP. Private Thomas Garwood. :poppy:

As always you are welcome Keith, and if I find out more about Thomas Garwood's death I will post again. What I cannot give a view on is why a TA battalion from the North East of England had a soldier from the Birmingham area on its role so early in WWII. There were lots of them later on but in 1940?! There's a story there...

    Best,

    Steve.
