    Angela,

If you can get your hands on a copy of Richard Doherty's book ONLY THE ENEMY IN FRONT, you will get an idea of what the Reconnaissance Corps were all about.

    Regards

    Angela,
Amazon is a good a place as any.
If you only wish to read it then order it from your local library, but if you want it as a reference book then purchasing is a good choice.

    Regards
    Tom

    Gentlemen

Im been gifted by Maj Douglas Waugh the records of the 46th Recce regimental association, which has effectivly wound up with only 4 surviving members.

the records consist of the following:

the of minutes of yearly meetings from 1951.

a copy of the 46th Infantry division privately published in Austria and the end of the war by the regiments.

a large photo album with photos of the Recce Corps and related paper cuttings etc.

    Other pages of miscellaneous photo's

the names and addresses of the Association members, most of whom are now sadly deceased.

The major’s original battledress jacket from 1945/46

I have not started yet but i shall be scanning and transcribing the records and adding them at this location over the next few months...

Somewhere in WW2 talk there was a list of the fallen, which i would like to 'borrow' to add to the page. Can someone point me to it as I cant find it?

    Any questions please ask..

    Thanks

been eavesdropping this thread and note that you have an almost complete history of th adventures of 46th Recce- as I have also been involved with another case of the 46th also......

One item caught my eye in the link supplied by Capt. Sensible where the recce chap mentions - very briefly- the action at San Gemmano where he was wounded ......I would assume that by that time the 46th were attached to the 46th Infantry Division - as they finished up in Graz in Austria...etc

Now if that account gave you goosebumps or shivers up the spine - then I would recommend a large supply of Kleenex tissues on reading of that battle at Gemmano........

I was about a mile east of that area at the same time and know therof what I speak ....so here is the Link....as I have no doubt that you have heard of the Cassino battles - this was worse .....so Google for "GEMMANO"
    Cheers

    31st January.
Weather extremely good and quite warm. A column of M.T. is to pass over the Bailey bridge to Rocca D’ Evandro to collect ammunition, rations and stores from that dump. The defence of the “Twin Bridges” will be the same as last night. 25 Indian porters arrived this afternoon to work for “C” Squadron. Slight artillery activity by both sides during the day but remarkably less than yesterday. 11th Troop of “C” Squadron was shelled at 08.00 hours and one man was slightly wounded, unable to walk, but evacuation cannot take place until dusk. The house fell on all the troops’ rations and none is recoverable.
Patrols of “A” Squadron. Normal contact with M.M.G.s (139th Brigade support group) N.T.R. Standing patrol to cover the bridge 881135 from 00.30 hours to 06.00 hours, strength one officer and four other ranks. On the journey out Sspandau firing intermittently up the valley of Ladrone, apparently on a fixed line, and slight mortaring. N.T.R.
“C” Squadron N.C.O. and six men. Route 895118 – Bowstring Bridge 891113, to report on area of bridge and attempt to draw enemy fire by simulating crossing. Two separate patrols, times out 17.30 hours and in at 19.30 hours and out at 00.30 hours and in at 02.30 hours. There was no reaction to fire on either occasion.
